Coil Coating Care
COATING LIMITED WARRANTY
POST-INSTALLATION CLEANING & MAINTENANCE
WARNING: DISCONNECT ALL POWER BEFORE SERVICING UNIT
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Regular cleaning of coated coils, components, and cabinets should be included in the scheduled maintenance program. Proper cleaning helps extend equipment life and is required to maintain the Protecall coating warranty. Register your warranty at Protecall.com.
APPROVED CLEANERS
For coils, components, and cabinets, use a non-acidic, pH-neutral, mild detergent such as RectorSeal, Nu-calgon, or Simple Green HVAC cleaners.
WARNINGS
Failure to follow this warning could cause personal injury or death. Always turn off the main power and use lockout tags before servicing the unit. Check that the electrical service matches the unit’s rating. Handle sheet metal parts carefully, and always wear protective clothing, safety glasses, and gloves.
When cleaning coils, cabinets, and components high-velocity water from a pressure washer or compressed air should only be applied at very low pressure (<100 psi) to avoid fin, coil, or equipment damage. Excessive force can bend fin edges, increase airside pressure drop, and lead to reduced unit performance or unit shutdowns.
Harsh chemicals, household bleach or acid cleaners should not be used to clean outdoor or indoor coated coils and/or cabinets. These cleaners can be very difficult to rinse out of the coil and can accelerate the corrosion attack of the coating.
COIL CLEANING
Turn off and lock out power before starting. Clear dirt or fibers from the coils using a vacuum or soft brush with the fins (never across). Spray approved cleaner evenly from top to bottom, starting on the air-exiting side. Let it soak for 2–3 minutes, then rinse with potable water at low pressure (<100 psi), back-flushing opposite the airflow if possible. Check coils and drains, repeat if needed, replace panels, and restore power.
CHECKLIST
Power Off & Prep

Allow solution to sit 2-3 minutes.
Keep surfaces wet.
Rinse
Rinse with potable water <100 psi, <130ºF.
Back-flush opposite of airflow.
Ensure all cleaner residue is removed
Final Steps
Inspect coil; repeat if needed.
Check drain lines and pans.
Reinstall all panels/tops.
Remove lockout/tagout; restore power.
Test system for proper operation.
Document cleaning.
CABINET AND COMPONENT CLEANING
Turn off and lock out power before starting. Rinse with potable water at low pressure. Wipe cabinet surfaces with a rag or sponge and approved cleaner to remove dirt and contaminants, then rinse thoroughly with potable water at low pressure (<100 psi) and below 130ºF to avoid damage. Finish with a final rinse of all cabinetry and coils, check coils and drain areas, repeat if needed, replace panels, and restore power.
